Your drivetrain is very important and has the function of transferring power evenly from the engine to all drive components wheels, gears and moving parts located in the Differential and Transfer Case.
and it determines the amount of torque. (in four-wheel and all-wheel drive cars), Also the Transmission.

Differential Service – Fluid Change

Why is it important?
Overtime, heat and wear break down differential fluids causing gears to loose lubrication and grind.
By Keeping fluids fresh and clean, wear and tear can be greatly reduced.

What is the service?

After draining and removing Old broken down fluid, New lubricating fluid based on your vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations, is added , making your Differential operation smoother.

Transfer Case Service – Fluid Change

Why is it important?
Drive power from the engine to the front and rear axles in four-wheel and all-wheel drive vehicles. Comes from the Transfer cases shift of power from one axle to another. Lubricant in the transfer case helps to keep its gears cool and operating smoothly. Completing a fluid change at appropriate intervals will help prevent premature wear and unseen damage caused by contaminated or broken-down lubricant.

What is the service?
The old transfer case fluid is removed and replaced with new fluid that conforms to your vehicle manufacturer’s recommendation. Special fluid is used to lubricate, cool and clean the gears in the transfer case.

On-Board Diagnostics  (OBD), is the computer system found in modern vehicles and is programmed to monitor emissions and diagnostic related information in your vehicle.

OBD systems provide valuable information to drivers and technicians. These systems detect faulty conditions early, and warn you before serious damage occurs to your vehicle. When a fault is detected, the OBD system provides information about the cause of the fault, including a readout of the issues leading up to the fault. OBD systems also provide real-time sensor readings from the vehicle, measuring vehicle speed, engine RPM, torque and calculate fuel economy and usage.

A belt or hose failure can cause an overheated engine, loss of power steering, and loss of the electrical charging system. Studies show that nearly 30% of cars need belt or hose repairs and their owners are completely unaware. Most hose manufacturers recommend replacing hoses every four years. V-belts should be replaced every three years or 36,000 miles. The incidence of failure rises sharply after the fourth year of service for hoses and third year for belts. The lifespan of a typical serpentine belt is about five years or 50,000 miles.
Inside every engine you’ll find a fuel system that consists of a fuel filter, fuel pump, and fuel injectors. Over time fuel systems can become clogged and you could experience lower gas mileage and a loss in power. It’s a good idea to annually have your fuel systems inspected and cleaned to maintain maximum performance.
The ignition switch transfers the power to the starter when you turn the ignition key. It also takes the power from the battery and directs it to all the accessories and electrical components of your car. A bad ignition switch can make the electrical systems in your vehicle not function properly or your vehicle may completely fail to start. If you are having trouble with any of the electrical systems it’s a good idea to schedule an appointment as soon as possible.

At Thomas Tire & Automotive we can service and upgrade the exhaust system in your vehicle. A properly functioning exhaust system reduces harmful emissions and keep your car running quietly. These complex systems involve more than just the muffler and can effect several components within your vehicle. A malfunctioning exhaust system can even affect your health because it is not properly directing dangerous carbon monoxide and/or carbon dioxide fumes away from inside the car.

Many people also choose to upgrade their exhaust system to add performance, appearance, and sound.

Getting Your Vehicle Inspected, Steps

Before renewing a vehicle’s registration, most customers will need both a safety inspection and emission inspection. The vehicle inspection process consists of three steps:
Step 1: Find a Certified Inspection Station
•    Take your vehicle to one of the 7,500 licensed inspection stations.
•    County Listing
Step 2: The Inspections
Most customers will have to undergo the two-part inspection process described below.
Vehicle Safety Inspection

This inspection is to make sure your vehicle is operating safely. It includes checks to the headlights, accessory lights, directional signals, foot brake, parking brake, steering and windshield wipers.
•    Vehicles 35 years old, or older, do not need a safety inspection.

On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) Emissions Inspection

North Carolina is fighting ozone-forming emissions from gasoline-operated cars and light duty trucks. Inspections are conducted using the vehicle’s on-board diagnostic (OBD) system, computerized equipment installed on all new vehicles since 1996. If you live in one of these counties list you are required to have an emissions inspection.

The following types of vehicles do not need an OBD emissions inspection:
•    Model 1995 vehicles, or older
•    Diesel-operated vehicles
•    Vehicles licensed under the farmer rate

Effective April 1, 2015, vehicles within the three most recent model years with fewer than 70,000 miles might be exempt from an emissions inspection. Find out if your vehicle qualifies.
